Using your mobile phone to connect using Net2Roam is simple, although there are a few points to note:
Mobile Internet connections can be up to 6 times slower than a standard 56kps dialup modem connection and mobile roaming charges charged by your local operators mean that when roaming abroad you are paying International call rates even to make a local call. To decrease your call charges we advise that you purchase a Pay As You Go SIM card in the country you are visiting and use this instead. They are available at most mobile phone shops, if you are unsure of their availability in the country you are visiting, please feel free to email us at support-en@net2roam.com and we will let you know. By using a local SIM card you will be paying local rates to get online.
We also recommend you use the ONSPEED software with Net2Roam (you are provided with a free 14-day trial of ONSPEED when you sign up to any of our Net2Roam packages). ONSPEED can accelerate Dial-up Internet to Broadband speeds, and, as it works by compressing data, it will also reduce your mobile data charges making it cheaper to surf the web via a mobile connection.
** IMPORTANT **
You will need to confirm with your operator that your mobile phone is data enabled, and, at the time of purchase, that your Pay As You Go SIM card is data enabled. You will not be able to access the Internet if your phone and SIM card are not enabled for data calls.
You will also need to check your phone ‘unblocked’, allowing you to use local network SIM cards. You should be able to check this is when purchasing the SIM.
When using Net2Roam with your mobile, your mobile will automatically connect using a GSM connection. Net2Roam does not work with a GPRS connection.
Please note: Most operators charge extremely high prices to use GPRS when overseas (up to 10GBP a minute).
